You just can’t beat a delicious pork roast, but it’s always useful to know how much pork roast per person, in order to properly prepare.
How much people will eat depends on appetites, your choice of sides and of course the size, age and potentially gender of your guests. That being said, it’s useful to have a rough rule of thumb to serve as a useful guideline.
How Much Pork Roast Per Person?
As a rule of thumb a good way to think about one serving per person is to think of 225g or half a pound of cooked meat, whether you are serving chicken, pork, beef or any other meat. This is an adequate amount per adult, while kids will usually eat less.
This will probably mean about 2-3 thin slices of roast pork per person.
If you are serving a pork roast filling out this portion of meat with sides such as roast potatoes, mashed potato, fries (potato or sweet potato), rice, green salad etc will make sure that your guests have plenty to eat.
1.5kg Pork Roast Cooking Time
Cooking a 1.5kg pork roast in the oven will require 30 minutes in the oven at 220C or 475F then a further 50 minutes with the oven turned down to 204C or 400F. This will help to crisp up the skin for a delicious pork crackling.
Be sure to pat the pork roast dry with kitchen paper first and then apply some coarse sea salt for best results in the oven.
How Much Pork Roast Per Person Per kg
Taking into account 6 people to feed, a pork loin which is around 1.5-2.5kg (3.3-4.4 pounds) is the right choice allowing for 225g or 1/2 pound of cooked meat for each person.
This means roughly 0.225kg per person.
Pork Shoulder Cooking Time Per kg
Pork shoulder or pork loin should be cooked at a higher heat in the oven (220C or 475F) initially to crisp up the skin, and then cooked for 30 minutes per 500g (1/2 kg or 1.1 pounds) at a lower heat of 204C or 400F. The meat will also need to rest for 15-20 minutes or so.
