How Many Pounds of Brisket Per Person?

For large cuts of meat such as pork butt or BBQ brisket 1/3 pounds (152g) of cooked meat per person should be sufficient. If you are serving both brisket and pulled pork in buns you might need a little less than this.

You’ll also need to consider that brisket and pork butt lose roughly half their weight during the cooking process meaning you will need 2/3 pound (302g) of raw meat per person.

1/3 pound of brisket per person = 3.3 pounds for 10 guests or 33.3 pounds for 100 guests.

1/3 pound of brisket per person = 6.6 pounds of cooked beef brisket for 20 guests

1/3 pound of pulled pork = 3.3 pounds for 10 guests or 33.3 pounds for 100 guests.

If you have 20 guests this will mean 6.6 pounds of cooked pulled pork.

A useful guideline for cooked BBQ meat per person is 152g (1/3 pound). This will depend on how many sides and appetisers you are serving, but it is a helpful recommendation to keep in mind for meal preparation.

As an appetiser 3 chicken wings per person should be enough. If chicken wings are your main dish plan on around 8-10 wings per person.

If you are serving ribs as a side dish or entree 3 or 4 ribs per person should be enough.

If ribs are your main BBQ dish along with side dishes a rack or ribs will feed around 2 people.

In terms of pounds, again 1/3 pound of cooked rib meat should be enough – remember though that there is less meat on ribs than other meat cuts and they are mostly bones.

1 rack of ribs = 2 guests so 10 guests = 5 rib racks and 100 guests = 50 rib racks.
