Top 7 Best Meats to Grill – Easy BBQ Ideas for 2023
1 Best Meat to Grill – Steak
Let’s face it, steak is probably the best meat to grill for most people.
We all have our individual preferences for different cuts, seasonings and level of doneness, but if you’re a meat-eater chances are steak is your go to grilled meat.
Yet, what cut is best for you? It depends on your budget, and flavour preferences.
We like to grill ribeye steak because of its great fat marbling which produces the perfect balance of flavour, tenderness and juiciness.
There are plenty of other good options too however. For less expensive cuts that are still great for grilling you could try flank or skirt steak.
If you want a showstopper of a grilled steak try the mighty Tomahawk steak (the bone is left in so that it resembles a Tomahawk axe). It’s fantastic for special occasions and gatherings, although admittedly expensive.
Porterhouse and and T-Bone steaks are also impressive, big bone-in pieces of meat to grill but again expensive and best left for special occassions for most of us.
Steak cuts that have the bones left in will take a little longer to cook, but bones definitely add flavour and extra moisture to the meat.
Although the filet mignon (fillet steak) is highly prized because of its tenderness, it doesn’t have as bold a flavour as other steak cuts because there isn’t a lot of fat in it. Although that may be an advantage to some people, it’s worth keeping in mind.
Sirloin is a good steak for grilling as it isn’t too expensive and contains enough fat to be flavoursome. It’s worth considering that this fat isn’t really edible and too chewy and tough, but it helps the overall flavour of the sirloin.
